Pet Project

Aspen was adopted from Stilesville Pet Shelter by Yasmin in the book Pet Project.

Aspen adoption story started in Pet Project when Jade and Yasmin were at the Stileviles Pet Shelter looking at cats and dogs in cages because Yasmin was thrilled to get approval from her parents to get a puppy. As she looked around, this white fluffy, wiggly puppy caught her eye, and Yasmin decided to adopt and name her Aspen due to her white fur looking like snow. Soon after taking Aspen home in her pet carrier in the backseat of Yasmin's car, Jade speed-dials Sasha and Cloe, telling them to meet them at Yasmin's house, claiming about a surprise. Yasmin and Jade reached her house, spotting Cloe's cruiser coming up behind. Jade goes to the other two girls while Yasmin brings Aspen inside.

Sasha and Cloe began talking about their study group's long session in preparation for the final exam, and Mrs. Ackerman, their history teacher, just wanted them to be through. Luckily, Jade announced a surprise that would cheer them up. Once inside Yasmin's house, Yasmin introduced Aspen to Sasha and Cloe. Sasha was thrilled, but Cloe looked bummed that Yasmin brought Aspen home without having the entire group meet her first since they shared everything. Yasmin admits that she wanted the other to come but couldn't let Aspen stay in the shelter for that long and wanted Cloe and Sasha to meet her as soon as she and Jade got home. After petting and spending time with Aspen, Cloe decided to adopt one as well, but the pet shelter had closed, and Sasha mentioned that Cloe's not a morning person, so she decided to come by in the afternoon. In the meantime, the girls decide to make Aspen feel at home, with Yasmin already stocked up on puppy gear and supplies prepared: sparkly collar and leash, toys, food, and a comfy bed.

When Cloe decided to adopt a puppy, she also couldn't help thinking about the other pets in the cages at the shelter. Sasha agrees that the animals need loving owners and forever homes. Cloe devised a plan for the pets but thought it would be crazy, and Yasmin, Sasha, and Jade had her share the idea. Cloe thought of adopting all the animals without being trapped at the shelter and figured she could give them a home with the girls' help by starting an animal campaign about adopting pets. Jade, Sasha, and Yasmin love the idea but must talk to the pet shelter person to get them on board and create a signature event. So they went to the shelter and met with Ms. Fiske, the director, to discuss how they could help with the other pets. Ms. Fiske explained that they tried adoption events around town in the park since they were so busy. Jade suggested they do a pet show to showcase the pets, give them makeovers and offer prizes for 'Best Tail Wagger,' 'Most Cuddly,' and 'Funniest.' Jade would design the ribbons, Cloe would design the posters to catch the eye of the crowd, and Sasha would spread the word on the school's radio station and the local radio station she did an internship. Yasmin even included the school's tv broadcast station to share on the morning announcements and the local tv station where they guest hosted. Sasha suddenly noticed the shelter was also worn-down and needed a total makeover from top to bottom to make the pets more comfortable. After they left the shelter and returned to Sasha's, she asked if there were any pet magazines, and Yasmin stated that Bowwow Meow Magazine was on the market, and Sasha recommended that they sponsor the event.

Once settled in Sasha's room, they got to work on the pet show. Yasmin came up with Precious Paws Pet Show, while Cloe came up with a design for the posters: a pawprint logo with a diamond-studded look. Jade started designing the ribbons and a color scheme of bright pink and black for the event, while Sasha made a list of supplies for the pets and the shelter, and Yasmin jotted down prizes to give to the animals.

When Yasmin got home, she was met by Aspen and got ready for bed. But Aspen woke up a few hours later, whimpering and scratching at the door, so Yasmin took her out to the backyard when Aspen wanted to play fetch with her ball, and after playing once, they headed back inside when Aspen noticed her bowls/dishes and happily chow on some puppy chow left over and lap up some water before Yasmin tired call for her. Then Aspen woke Yasmin 3 times, and by the following day, she was so fed up that her doorbell rang and furiously opened her door wide, letting it bang on the wall. Cloe looked worried for her friend, noticing she looked grumpy, and Yasmin explained everything and then blamed Cloe's plan that everyone got busy with the pet show. Although Cloe replied that Aspen still would've kept everyone up if she helped, she offered to walk Aspen while Yasmin took a nap. Of course, Yasmin complained that's what she wanted Cloe to do and rolled over on her bed. Cloe looks at her friend sadly before taking Aspen outside to avoid Yasmin's accusations. While walking Aspen, Cloe couldn't help but wonder if what Yasmin said was true. She wasn't trying to be selfish. She was trying to help the animals like Aspen and realized Yasmin was right about letting her jealousy get the best of her and trying to one-up Yasmin! Cloe and Aspen raced back to Yasmin's just as she woke up from her nap, and Cloe rushed over to apologize and hug her. Yasmin was tired and confused as Cloe continued everything they discussed and suggested that they work on the pet show while helping out with Aspen. After approving the idea, Yasmin sneaked another few minutes of sleep while Cloe speed-dialed Jade and Sasha while playing with Aspen quietly outside.
