Work in progress!
This article is a work in progress! This means that it's still being edited and is not complete but we are working on getting it finished.

The following page will guide you through how to find and use references.

What is a reference?[]

A reference or citation is a link to a published work (for example, a book, article, image, etc.,) to verify a piece of information.

Why we require references[]

  • It shows readers where specific pieces of information came from and where readers can locate it for themselves.
  • It acknowledges or gives credit to the author who actually created the content being used in the article.
  • Source citations also give a work credibility. In other words, it shows the information is simply not made up.

Telling readers where a statement can be verified is important, don't assume that your readers have the same level of knowledge about Bratz as you do.

General Guidelines[]

  • Bratz wiki is an encyclopedia, not a publisher of original thought.
  • Bratz is not the place to publish your opinions, experiences, or arguments.
  • Editors should provide attribution for quotations and for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. The burden of evidence lies with the editor wishing to add or retain the material.

How to reference something[]

We have a template for references:

<ref> type your reference here </ref>

Valid References[]

If a product bears an official logo from the Bratz and MGAE brands — and an appropriate copyright declaration — it'll be a valid source.

Below we will list some valid sources. But let's take a look at the kinds of things that don't work for us. Seeing how these rules eliminate sources will probably help resolve any lingering questions.

Invalid References[]

Fanfiction[]

Fan fiction isn't allowed. Any fiction, by any author, where the copyright holder hasn't given permission isn't allowed, even if it's written by someone who has previously worked on Bratz products.

Unofficial Social Media[]

Posts from social media pages unaffiliated with the Bratz brand. All official social media pages can be found here. Any other account claiming to be an official Bratz affiliated account should not be trusted or used as a source.

Crossovers[]

Over the years Bratz characters have appeared in non-MGAE media, often as a parody (for example, The Robot Chicken episode). These appearances are non-canon and information from these crossovers should not be added to any articles.

Real World Information[]

The majority of Bratz media takes place in the United States of America on planet Earth. There are many ways in which the Bratz version of Earth history is different from real world Earth history. Just because something happened in the real world, does not mean it also happened in the Bratz world. For example, the current president of the United States might be completely different in the Bratz world than our world.

Gossip & Rumours[]

Gossip and rumours that cannot be verified. For example:

  • "My friend works for MGAE and they told me x"
  • "I met one of the doll makers at comic con and they told me x"
  • "Someone on a forum told me x"
  • "Everyone knows x is true"

These are not valid sources.
